At the National Arena in Bucharest, Romania a football match between FCSB and Universitatea Craiova was the moment when a world of opportunities opened up for fans and teams of the Liga Profesionista de Fotbal – LPF. The 25th matchday of the Liga 1 Betano, the top division in Romanian football, can be described as a revolutionary moment in the Romanian digital landscape of televised sport.
The digital transformation of Football has now elevated the accessibility of watching any match, anywhere using Facebook Watch.
This journey of digital transformation was made possible by a partnership between LPF, its member clubs, Stadeum Sports, and EAD.ro, after several hours of weekly preparation. On the day of the match a “clean feed” was prepared and was cross posted to 5 Facebook Pages using Grabyo’s advanced cloud video platform. Grabyo’s browser-based tools allowed for collaborative and remote video production, editing and distribution.
Taking into consideration that the broadcasted match could only be viewed outside Romania, there was no paid promotion and only a few pages streamed the match - results where outstanding. In total 101.000 fans tuned into the match thanks to the live feed being shared 812 times and over the course of the 90 minutes fans reacted 4.452 times and made over 2.403 comments.
This project designed by Stadeum Sports, together with Facebook, Liga Profesionista de Fotbal and EAD.ro represents the first proof of how football clubs, leagues, federations and Broadcasters can work together to capitalize on the global online market for football.
